BELL GARDENS : Estrada Is Hired as New City Attorney
- Share via
Michael Estrada, who has served as interim city attorney, has been hired to the post by the City Council.
Estrada’s first task was to design a fee schedule that will save the city thousands of dollars annually in legal expenses. He has delivered his proposal to the city manager but would not discuss his fees until after the City Council sees them on Monday.
Henry Barbosa was fired as city attorney last summer, in part because his rates were too high. The city often paid $20,000 a month for his work.
Estrada, 38, works in the Downtown law firm of Richards, Watson & Gershon and plans to open an office in Bell Gardens City Hall. He said he will spend 20 to 25 hours per week there.
Estrada also serves as assistant city attorney in Norwalk, South El Monte and La Puente.
