How big a story is Germany’s quarterfinal loss to Bulgaria Sunday?
A reporter from the German newspaper Bild was asked:
Is this bigger than Boris Becker winning Wimbledon?
“Yes,” he said.
Is this bigger than Becker and Steffi Graf winning at Wimbledon in the same year?
“Yes,” he said.
Well, just how big is it?
“The biggest,” he said.
German defender Thomas Strunz was asked what he expected upon the team’s return home.
“The reporters will give us a greeting,” he said.
Greeting? How about bashing, shredding, ripping, pummeling . . .
