Probe Continues in Panama Crash

PANAMA CITY — A plane crash in Panama that killed 21 people, most of them Jewish, was probably linked to business deals and not ethnically motivated, President-elect Ernesto Perez Balladares said Thursday.
Perez told reporters during a visit to Washington: “We think (the) true motive is probably related to illegal activities in (Colon’s) Free Zone,” a duty-free center that attracts foreign business people and, some say, questionable business dealings.
Investigators combed the plane’s wreckage Thursday to look for evidence in Tuesday’s crash, which came on the heels of a deadly explosion Monday at a Jewish community center in Argentina.
