On Child Safety

* A potentially fatal flaw is cited in The Times’ editorial (July 17), “Uniform Pool-Safety Code Needed to Protect Toddlers.” A coalition of parents and health care providers claim “ . . . that parents cannot count on monitoring their children’s whereabouts to protect them from drowning.”
Every day children suffer accidents in kitchens, garages and medicine cabinets because they are not properly supervised. Government codes requiring homeowners to pay to install even more fencing around their swimming pools will just give more false security to the adult.
Children’s accidents happen when backs are turned. The only code that will ever save lives is vigilant adult supervision .
