Dangerous Smokers

* Regarding the photo and story of the Irvine brush fire in the Times on July 13:
How often has each of us, when driving, seen the nitwit ahead or next to us toss that burning butt out the window?
In the last year I have witnessed this crime occurring at signals immediately ahead of patrol units with the officer observing. When I asked a Newport police officer (he was a smoker) why the law on this matter is not enforced, he said it’s because “everyone does it.”
So this rationale makes this act and all its possible consequences OK?
It is time for this law to be enforced, whether the imbecile tossing the cigarette has done so during a drought or a deluge.
