World IN BRIEF : BOSNIA-HERZEGOVINA : Both Sides Agree to Anti-Sniping Pact

Bosnia’s warring factions signed a U.N.-brokered accord to halt sniping in Sarajevo and pledged to patrol high-risk areas with U.N. peacekeepers to stop marksmen who disobey. The agreement, signed by political and military leaders of the Muslim-led government and the Bosnian Serbs, was to take effect within 24 hours. It prohibits sniping attacks on civilians, soldiers and U.N. personnel in the Sarajevo area. The two sides also promised to stop shooting at U.N. planes.
