A father and son were arrested Wednesday on Lido Isle by Orange County sheriff’s investigators after the pair boarded a $285,000 sailboat reported stolen Saturday in Dana Point Harbor.
Jaroslaw John Zymny, 48, and Alexander Loren Zymny, 22, who told police their last address was in Irvine, were booked at the Orange County Jail on suspicion of grand theft and burglary, according to Lt. Dick Olson of the sheriff’s Harbor Patrol.
The 43-foot craft Myriah, owned by an Indian Wells man, disappeared from its slip in the harbor, police said. At the time of its recovery, Olson said, investigators also recovered a 10-foot Avon dinghy tied alongside. The inflatable dinghy was reported stolen from Dana Point Harbor at the same time as the sailboat, he said.
Sgt. Paul Falk of the Harbor Patrol described the two men as transients who had recently come to the San Clemente area.
Police credited Todd & Associates, a San Diego-based marine investigation firm, with locating the stolen sailboat and contacting the Harbor Patrol.
