Road Redesign Committee Is Seeking Applicants

LAGUNA BEACH — Residents who want to help redesign Laguna Canyon Road from El Toro Road to the San Diego Freeway can apply to be part of a committee being formed for that purpose.
While unwilling to endorse a design preferred by the county that calls for the winding road to be moved several hundred yards west of its location, the City Council has endorsed widening the road to four lanes and moving it away from three area lakes.
County officials have said they will continue working with the city to try to resolve the differences and suggested that the city appoint a five- to seven-member committee to consider design alternatives.
The committee should include people with expertise in road design and construction as well as other residents, according to a notice released by the city. Members will work with representatives from the city, county and state to evaluate design alternatives.
Interested residents should obtain an application from the city clerk and file it by 5 p.m. Sept. 1. Applicants will be interviewed by the City Council on Sept. 6 at 6 p.m. in council chambers.
For more information, call the city clerk’s office at (714) 497-0705.
