MISSION VIEJO : Saddleback Has New Jazz Band Director

Saddleback College has a new director for its jazz band.
Bob Avzaradel takes over the position vacated by Paul Kurokawa, who left Saddleback to become chairman of the jazz department at Grossmont College in San Diego County.
Avzaradel was director of instrumental music at San Clemente High School for eight years. In 1987, he was honored at the Fullerton College Jazz Festival as most outstanding new jazz educator.
Most recently, Avzaradel was director of bands at Irvine High School.
Avzaradel is a former member of the U.S.A. Youth All Star Jazz Ensemble, which performed in Europe. He is a member of the National Assn. of Jazz Educators and the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Foundation.
The Saddleback College jazz band consists of college and high school students and other local residents.
