2,000 Bosnians Forced Out of Homes

SARAJEVO, Bosnia-Herzegovina — More than 2,000 Bosnian Muslims were driven from their homes by ethnic Serbs in the worst two-day episode of “ethnic cleansing” in recent months, U.N. officials said Tuesday.
The forcible expulsions raised to 5,580 the number of Muslims who have fled the Banja Luka and Bijeljina regions of north-central and northeastern Bosnia-Herzegovina since mid-July, said Christiane Berthiaume, a spokeswoman in Geneva for the Office of the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees.
Refugees have told U.N. officials that Bosnian Serb forces are pressing Muslim men into forced labor.
Berthiaume repeated U.N. concerns that the Serbs apparently plan to clear out all Muslims remaining in the northern regions.
