TRICKS OF THE TRADE: Even the most conservative football coaches tuck a secret play (above) in their back pockets before walking on the field for a big game. . . . Valley high school coaches recall their favorite flights of razzle-dazzle in Football ‘94, today’s special prep football section, which includes team-by-team previews.
THE COLLEGE GAME: Local college football also kicks off Saturday. Cal State Northridge, with preseason Division I-AA All-American quarterback J.J. O’Laughlin, plays its first game at Boise State. . . . Among junior colleges, Antelope Valley, Glendale, Pierce and Valley start their ’94 campaigns (C8).
FARE WAR WHERE? The latest airline fare war, prompted by Continental Airlines’ fall cuts of as much as 50% (D2), doesn’t do Burbank Airport travelers much good because Continental doesn’t fly there. If you’re going from Burbank to Denver, however, you’re in luck; United cut that flight from $458 round trip to $278. Otherwise, your best bet is to fly out of LAX.

It costs so much to do a detailed nutritional analysis of each item, she said, that officials might analyze only a few and serve those.
DOUBLE TAKE: Game scenes for a new Warner Bros. football movie called “Little Giants” are being filmed at the L.A. Equestrian Center in Burbank. . . . “It’s very scenic, the grounds are well kept, and it’s very photogenic,” said center General Manager Ken Mowry. The center used the proceeds to help build a new 300-by-400-foot riding ring.
