Joe Paterno, who has been on the Penn State coaching staff since 1950 and head football coach since 1966, may be drawing a bead on the 21st Century.
Paterno, 67, said two years ago he’d like to coach until he was 70. But last month he said he’ll try for five more years. That takes him to 1998.
With 258 victories, he stands fourth on the college list, behind Bear Bryant, 323; Pop Warner, 319, and Amos Alonzo Stagg, 314.
Said Penn State assistant athletic director Budd Thalman, “Joe looks the same as he did 20 years ago. He’s untouched by the aging process. He works as hard as anyone on his staff, and still finds time every day for a long walk in the woods, behind his house.”
