VENTURA : Grand Jury Indicts Man in July Slaying

The Ventura County Grand Jury has indicted a 23-year-old gang member accused of fatally shooting another gang member over a romantic triangle, prosecutors said Tuesday.
Thomas Al Corral, 23, is scheduled to be arraigned in Ventura County Superior Court today on a charge of murder. He also faces a kidnaping charge from an unrelated 1991 case.
Prosecutors say Corral burst through the door of his ex-girlfriend’s Ventura home July 21 and shot Roger Rowland, 23.
By obtaining the indictment through the grand jury, prosecutors avoid having to prove that there is sufficient evidence to hold Corral on the charges at a preliminary hearing.
Corral and a co-defendant, Ruben Viveros, were arrested in Las Vegas a week after Rowland’s death.
Viveros, who is charged with accessory to murder, is being held at the Ventura County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bail.
Because of an outstanding arrest warrant from a 1991 case, Corral is being held without bail, authorities said.
