Orange County High School Football PREP EXTRA : King, Klemp Lead Savanna Past Katella
- Share via
ANAHEIM — Daven King rushed for 157 yards and three touchdowns and quarterback Jeremy Klemp had a near-flawless performance to lead Savanna to a 42-6 victory over Katella Friday at Glover Stadium.
Savanna used a variety of run-and-shoot plays that kept the Knights guessing throughout. When King wasn’t exhausting Katella’s defense with his elusive speed, Klemp was completing all but one of his passes. He finished with 12 completions in 13 attempts for 157 yards and two touchdowns.
The Rebels scored on their first possession when King, who rushed only 10 times in the game, raced up the middle for a 23-yard touchdown.
Early in the second quarter, leading 7-0, Savanna drove to the Katella five-yard line on a 29-yard run by King. Four consecutive running plays failed to reach the end zone. Katella took over but was forced to punt from its three. King returned the punt 28 yards and set up a sneak by Klemp.
After Savanna defensive back Dedrick Ennis intercepted a pass late in the half, the Rebels scored when Klemp hit Berry Micheel on a nine-yard scoring pass.
