Tackling the Local Issues

Unlike his happy-go-lucky colleagues on “The Dave & Bob Show,” Carl Haeberle deals with weighty local issues: the electric company’s rate increase, the city of Ventura’s housing allotments, the county’s traffic mitigation fees.
The hard-working Haeberle does his best to keep the conversations lively and balanced. “If it gets boring, I shut it down,” says Haeberle, whose smooth, stentorian voice rules the mike.
Replacing such a local institution as the late Frank Haines isn’t easy, and Haeberle admits “it was scary” when he went on the air last November, a month after Haines died.
A radio veteran, spending the last five years at KGO in San Francisco, Haeberle gave himself a crash course in local history and culture and now handles hometown issues like a native.
“Carl has done a sensational job,” says KVEN president and general manager David Loe. “Frank was a tough act to follow, but Carl’s building a bigger and bigger audience every day.”
