Huntington Beach

City Council meeting

When: Monday at 6:30 p.m.

Where: City Council Chambers, 2000 Main St.

What: Two public hearings are scheduled to consider fee increases needed to balance the 1994-95 budget. A $1 increase in parking fees for the downtown parking structure is proposed. A vehicle impound fee of $50 is also proposed. The council will consider hiring the law firm of Rutan & Tucker to help defend the city in a case involving Huntington Beach’s campaign reform ordinance. Councilman David Sullivan plans to ask that the city report the salaries of city employees.

Orange

City Council meeting

When: Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Where: Weimer Room, 300 E. Chapman Ave.

What: The City Council will meet with the Planning Commission to put final touches on an update of the city’s zoning ordinance. City planning officials have overhauled the city’s design regulations.

Costa Mesa

Newport-Mesa Unified School District meeting

When: Oct. 25 at 7 p.m.

Where: Harper Community Center, 425 E. 18th St.

What: The board will consider a plan to bring drug-sniffing police dogs onto campuses to sniff-search lockers and cars.

San Juan Capistrano

City Council meeting

When: Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Where: City Council Chambers, 32400 Paseo Adelanto.

What: A policy to regulate the serving of alcoholic beverages in public will be discussed. Although the Municipal Code forbids public drinking, organizers of some events have sought exemptions from the rules for such things as weddings and community fairs.

Seal Beach

Community meeting

When: Thursday at 7 p.m.

Where: City Council Chambers, 211 8th St.

What: Residents will review the results of a study of traffic patterns near McGaugh Elementary School. In July, 12-year-old Christopher Schneider was struck by a car and killed while waiting on a sidewalk across the street from the school. The city might reduce speed limits and install warning signs and sidewalk pedestrian barriers in the area.
