Exiles Kill Cuban Before Capture, Authorities Say

HAVANA — A group of seven armed and camouflage-dressed Cuban exiles shot dead a Cuban fisherman after arriving on the island in a motor launch from Florida, authorities said Sunday.
An Interior Ministry statement said the men were captured along with their vessel and arms Saturday after what the ministry called “this strange attempt at armed infiltration.”
The dead man, 34-year-old Arcelio Rodriguez Garcia, was one of four fishermen the group encountered after landing near dawn on a causeway under construction in the Caibarien area, about 200 miles east of Havana.
The statement, published in the Communist youth weekly Juventud Rebelde, said three of the “mercenaries” were slightly injured when they were captured.
