SANTA MARIA — After a 27-24 Western State Conference loss to Hancock College at Righetti High Saturday night, Glendale wasn’t about to call the area inside the opponent’s 20 the red zone.
It was more like the Dead Zone.
Glendale (4-5, 3-5 in WSC, 1-3 in division), clinging to a 14-7 lead in a North Division game, entered Hancock’s red zone three times during the second quarter. But a blocked field goal, an interception and a fumble ended the threats.
Mark Powell of Hancock (6-3, 5-3, 3-1) set a school single-game record with 13 catches for 196 yards, including a 35-yarder that set up the go-ahead touchdown with 5 minutes 18 seconds to play.
Glendale’s Tony Delgado passed for 241 yards, but had three interceptions.
