Sylmar High receiver Kevin Turner has been declared academically ineligible and will miss postseason play, Coach Jeff Engilman said.
Turner, the Spartans’ leading receiver with 16 catches for 256 yards and two touchdowns, suited up for practice Monday, but went first to a talk to an English teacher before heading to the field. He didn’t return to practice.
“He basically just stopped showing up,” Engilman said. “Nobody’s heard from him since.”
Top-seeded Sylmar (10-0) opens postseason play tonight in a City Section Division 4-A game against University (7-3).
