Elaine Canchola
SCHOOL: Nordhoff
SPORT: Cross-country
YEAR: Freshman
SEASON AT A GLANCE: Canchola has been on a tear since finishing 13th in the Division III sweepstakes race Oct. 21 at the Mt. San Antonio College Invitational. She placed third in the Ventura County championships on Oct. 28 before winning three consecutive races, capped by the Division III title in Saturday’s Southern Section championships at Mt. SAC.
WEEK AT A GLANCE: Canchola covered the three-mile course at Mt. SAC in 17 minutes 35 seconds, breaking the freshman course record (17:37) set by Agoura’s Deena Drossin in 1987. Canchola led the Rangers to victory in the Division III championships. “I thought she’d be a 19-minute runner by the end of the season,” Nordhoff Coach Ken Reeves said. “But I had no idea she’d run this fast.”
