FULLERTON — A veteran and a rookie teamed up to pace the U.S. National Soccer team to a 2-0 victory Friday night over the Trinidad & Tobago Under-23 Team.
Marcelo Balboa, who was named the game’s most valuable player, scored in the 28th minute on a right-footed blast from 20 yards.
Jovan Kirovski, who scored on a second-half penalty kick, set up Balboa by chesting down a pass.
Balboa, who has played more international matches than any other player in U.S. soccer history, will earn his 99th career cap Sunday against the Honduras national team.
Kirovski, an 18-year-old Escondido native, joined the national team in September.
