Van Nuys High has hired Mark Pomerantz as the school’s football coach, replacing George Engbrecht, who resigned Monday.
Pomerantz, 39, has been an assistant at Van Nuys the past three years. Engbrecht is leaving the campus to accept a job at Hoover High as an assistant principal.
Jack Molina, assistant principal at Van Nuys, said that Engbrecht’s letter of recommendation was a strong factor in the selection of Pomerantz.
Van Nuys finished 6-5, losing to Venice in the first round of the City Section 3-A Division playoffs. Van Nuys advanced to the playoffs three consecutive years under Engbrecht.
