PREP ROUNDUP : Front Line Silent, but Mater Dei Comes Back to Tie Up Edison
- Share via
Mater Dei came into Tuesday’s game against Edison hoping to get its first goal of the season from a talented front line. The Chargers just wanted somebody to give them a lift.
Neither happened as the nonleague girls’ soccer game ended in a 1-1 tie at Mater Dei.
“We’ve still got a long way to go,” Mater Dei Coach Michelle Myers said. “It’s frustrating to see the same players we had in the semifinals of the playoffs last year not getting it done this year.”
Edison, which lost Shauna Itri because of a serious knee injury in the opening minutes of its first game, has been trying to replace its best player ever since.
The Chargers (2-3-2) scored when Samantha Craig punched a shot with her left foot out of a crowd three minutes into the second half for a 1-0 lead.
However, the Monarchs (1-2-2) tied the score midway through the second half, when Trisha Steiner led defender Kim Buccola with a perfect pass and Buccola beat goalkeeper Kim James up high.
