Women are getting fewer abortions and mostly seeking them in the first trimester of their pregnancies, the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said. The number of legal abortions nationwide was 1,359,145 in 1992, a 2.1% drop from 1991 and the lowest level in 15 years, the CDC said. There were about three times as many live births as legal, induced abortions in 1992. “This indicates a larger proportion of pregnancies ending in a live birth,” a CDC spokeswoman said.
