CRENSHAW : Multimedia ‘Mbari’ Art Piece to Debut
- Share via
A new performance art piece, “Mbari: When the Land Is Hot/No Condition Is Permanent,” will premiere at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Kabasa Gallery.
The multimedia piece incorporates dance, music, visual art and original dialogue by writers and artists Joyce Guy, Franz Reynold, K. Curtis Lyle, Noni Olabisi, Jemela Mwelu and Kayren E. Lyle.
Mbari is a West African healing ritual that involves several art forms, a concept that performers of the piece said inspired them to artistically address the need for healing in post-riot Los Angeles.
“Mbari” will also be presented at 8 p.m. on Jan. 14 at the Vision Complex Little Theatre, 4310 Degnan Blvd., Leimert Park.
Admission is free. Kabasa Gallery is at 3205 W. 54th St. Information: (213) 292-7592.
