Lawrence Silverman, a retired animation cartoonist who worked for major Hollywood studios, has died at his Camarillo home. He was 86.
A native of New York City, Silverman moved to Studio City in 1964 to work for Disney animation studios. Silverman’s work includes “Casper the Friendly Ghost” and “Mighty Mouse,” said his wife of 53 years, Eleanor Silverman.
Among the various studios he worked for during his 54-year career were Hanna Barbera and Terrytoons, Eleanor Silverman said.
Silverman, an early riser who swam 24 laps every morning, moved to Camarillo shortly after he retired in 1984.
During his years in Camarillo, Silverman developed a love for ceramics, and he spent hours making clay figurines. His favorite was a collection of mother and daughter figurines, his wife said.
He died at his home after a brief illness.
In addition to his wife, Silverman is survived by two daughters, Joanne Kurzbard of Marco Island, Fla., and Jaclyn Saunders of Seattle, and four grandchildren.
The family will hold a private service.
