Christopher Hospitalized in Canada

OTTAWA — A bleeding ulcer sent Secretary of State Warren Christopher to the hospital Thursday evening, interrupting his participation in U.S.-Canadian diplomatic talks and probably requiring him to stay in bed for several days.
Christopher, 69, began to feel ill during the talks here Thursday. His Secret Service detail took him to Ottawa Civic Hospital, where physicians concluded that a tiny ulcer had been aggravated by an anti-inflammatory medicine he had been taking for arthritis.
Doctors said Thursday night that he was in excellent medical condition and good spirits. But they recommended he stay in the hospital overnight, then check in for “one or two more nights” upon his return to Washington, a State Department spokesman said.
