Ted Hovorka has been named Cypress High’s football coach, Athletic Director John Selbe said Friday.
Hovorka replaces Selbe, who had been coach since 1987. Selbe will continue to coach the Cypress girls’ basketball team and serve as athletic director. The Centurions finished fourth in the Empire league last season with a 4-6 record. Selbe’s career record at Cypress was 32-55-3.
Hovorka will be a walk-on coach. He teaches at Trident Education Center in Anaheim, which is a continuation school. He has been a lower-level and varsity assistant at Servite the past five years and is a graduate of Servite, where he was an All-CIF and all-county linebacker.
Hovorka played football and baseball at the Air Force Academy from 1984-86 and graduated from UCLA.
