Last year a total of 1,858 people with the last name Smith bought a home in California.
That was 16.9% more than the 1,589 home buyers named Garcia who bought a home in the state in 1994, Dataquick Information Systems reported.
The Smiths and Garcias were followed in home-buyer frequency by people with the last names Johnson, Lee, Rodriguez, Lopez and Hernandez, the real estate information service reported.

Cohn.
