ROUNDUP : Angel Tees Off on Favorite Course With 63

Two-time defending City Section individual golf champion Darren Angel added to his list of accomplishments Wednesday in leading host Granada Hills High to a 409-426 victory over Chatsworth in a City 5-A League match at Knollwood Golf Course in Granada Hills.
Angel, who has signed with Arizona State and is an American Junior Golf Assn. All-American, shot a nine-under-par 63 for the Highlanders (6-0, 4-0) to tie his course record and help hand the Chancellors (4-2, 3-1) their first league setback.
Angel shot 63 at Knollwood last year as a junior.
BASEBALL
Thousand Oaks 7, Agoura 1--Ryan Holmes led off with a home run for the Lancers in a Marmonte League game at Agoura. Two of the next four batters also homered for the Lancers (9-4, 3-2) in a four-run first.
Santos Mummey gave up seven hits to the Chargers (6-6, 1-4) and went the distance.
Royal 6, Channel Islands 2--Adrian Mendoza allowed one earned run on two hits for the Highlanders (8-4, 3-2) in a Marmonte League game at Channel Islands.
Mendoza struck out eight, walked two and hit two batters.
Brent Egan had a run-scoring double in the sixth for the Highlanders and Ben Limos added two hits and drove in a run.
Camarillo 4, Newbury Park 3--Nick Moody scored the winning run on Rodell DeSamparo’s sixth-inning single in a Marmonte League game at Camarillo.
Nathan Kaup picked up the victory in relief for the Scorpions (8-4, 3-2).
Crespi 9, Notre Dame 4--Rey Munoz (2-2) pitched five shutout innings for the Celts (5-7, 3-3) in a Mission League game at Notre Dame.
Notre Dame’s Christian Dempsey had three hits, two runs and three runs batted in.
St. Francis 5, Loyola 3--Joe Baldino had three hits for St. Francis in a Mission League game at Loyola.
Baldino also recorded seven strikeouts in seven innings for the Golden Knights (6-5, 3-3).
Bell-Jeff 13, Salesian 12--David Quintero had four hits--including a three-run homer--and drove in five runs for the Guards (7-4, 4-1) in a Santa Fe League game at Bell-Jeff.
John Pawlik had two hits and three RBIs and David Matekel drove in two runs with a double and a triple for Bell-Jeff, which survived a four-run rally in the seventh by Salesian (5-4, 2-3).
SOFTBALL
Campbell Hall 10, Cate 7--Sara Atchity had two hits and drove in three runs for the Vikings (3-4) in a nonleague game at Campbell Hall.
Elena Dubinsky added two hits and two RBIs and Stephanie Thompson drove in a run on two hits for Campbell Hall.
Chaminade 5, Louisville 2--Kelly Durkin (3-2) scattered six hits and struck out five, and Elizabeth Patterson had two hits, including a double, for the Eagles (6-4, 2-0) in a Mission League game at Louisville.
Village Christian 2, Northview 0--Jackie Aranda (4-1) fired a one-hitter and struck out 12 for the Crusaders (8-4) in a nonleague game at Northview.
El Camino Real 1, Chatsworth 0--Courtney Henderson led off the 10th with a double, took third on an error and scored when right fielder Liz Holodnak misplayed Ramona Shelburne’s fly ball, giving the Conquistadores the victory in a Northwest Valley Conference game at El Camino Real.
Henderson, Shelburne and Kristen Gutekunst each had two hits for the Conquistadores (14-1, 6-0), and Tami Jones (10-1) fired a three-hitter, striking out seven.
San Fernando 10, Cleveland 2--Sophomore Valerie Perez had three hits and drove in five runs for the Tigers (7-7, 3-3) in a Northwest Valley Conference victory at San Fernando.
Gina Sanchez added two hits and three RBIs for San Fernando.
Tammy Wilhite became the third player in 10 years to hit a ball out of San Fernando’s ballpark when she hit the first pitch of the game into the street behind the left field fence, finishing with three of four hits for the Cavaliers (4-7, 1-5).
VOLLEYBALL
Royal d. Camarillo, 15-8, 15-6, 15-2--Scott Hambly and Dan Rizzo each had 11 kills, Eric Carlsen had nine and John Baxter added 47 assists for the Highlanders (7-2, 7-0) in a Marmonte League victory at Royal.
Highland d. Antelope Valley, 15-2, 15-12, 15-11--Ryan Millar had 18 kills in a Golden League match at Antelope Valley. Mike Phillips added six kills for the Bulldogs (9-0, 9-0).
Van Nuys d. Reseda, 15-2, 15-3, 16-14--Ricardo Hernandez had 12 kills in the Valley Pac-8 Conference match. Hernandez also had three aces for the Wolves (10-0, 7-0).
BOYS’ SWIMMING
Taft 87, Reseda 67--Blake Nord led the Toreadors (5-1, 4-1) to a Northwest Valley Conference victory by winning two individual events (100 butterfly and 100 backstroke) and swimming on two winning relay teams.
Taft’s Ryan Jones won the 200 freestyle and Oren Yakovee swam on three winning relays.
GIRLS’ SWIMMING
Taft 130, Reseda 26--Sisters Janeen and Amy Ogier accounted for four first-place finishes in individual events and helped the Toreadors (6-0, 5-0) win all three relays in a Northwest Valley Conference meet.
Janeen won the 200 individual medley and 500 freestyle, while Amy won the 100 and 200 freestyles. Andrea Scheaffer took the 100 butterfly and 50 freestyle and swam on the winning 400 medley relay.
BOYS’ TRACK
Taft 67, El Camino Real 60--Moses Backus won the 220-yard dash in a personal best of 21.9 seconds, took the 440 in 50.4, and anchored the victorious 440-yard (43.9) and mile-relay (3:32.1) teams for the Toreadors in the Northwest Valley Conference meet at Taft.
Teammate Ilmar Rodriguez was a triple winner in the 880 (2:09.2), mile (4:56.4) and two-mile (10:54.3) for Taft (4-1, 4-1).
Kennedy 87, San Fernando 38--Steve Williams won the 120-yard high hurdles (15.6), the high jump (6 feet), long jump (21-9) and triple jump (45-0 3/4) for the Tigers, but the Golden Cougars (4-1, 4-1) prevailed in the Northwest Valley meet at Kennedy.
William Anderson won the 880 and mile for Kennedy.
Birmingham 88, Chatsworth 39--Alejandro Tinajero won the 800 (2:07.0) and 1,600 (4:38.7) as the Braves (5-0, 5-0) extended their conference dual-meet winning streak to 62 in a Northwest Valley meet at Birmingham.
GIRLS’ TRACK
Taft 79, El Camino Real 39--Tynisha Howze won the 220-yard dash in 26.6 seconds and the 440 in 1:02.8 for the Toreadors (4-1) and anchored the 440 (52.2) and mile (4:24.8) relays in a Northwest Valley Conference meet at Taft.
Frances Santin was also a double winner for Taft with clockings of 5:55.1 in the mile and 49.8 330 in the low hurdles, and ran the second leg of the mile relay.
Chatsworth 62, Birmingham 56--Melinda George won the 800-, 1,600- and 3,200-meter events, and anchored the Chancellors’ winning 1,600-meter relay team in a Northwest Valley Conference meet at Birmingham.
Shalauna Brock won the 100-, 200- and 400-meter dashes for the Braves (3-2, 3-2).
BOYS’ TENNIS
Westlake 10, Royal 8--No. 1 singles player Nick Varvais won all three of his sets for the Highlanders (9-3, 4-3), but the Warriors (9-4, 4-2) prevailed by taking five of the remaining six in singles. Darren Joe and Todd Campbell each had two victories in the Marmonte League match.
Calabasas 10, Cate 8--Jeff Herz and Darren Miller swept singles play for the Coyotes (10-5) in a nonleague match at Calabasas.
