COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Eppley’s First Hit of Season Helps Irvine Valley Win

Right fielder Kim Eppley got her first hit of the season, driving in Lisa Ramos in the seventh inning to give Irvine Valley a 4-3 victory over Orange Coast in Orange Empire Conference softball Friday at Irvine Valley.
Pitcher Rocky Willson gave up two earned runs, struck out three and walked none. At the plate, she was two for two with two walks, two singles and a run batted in. Teammate Mindy Cook also was two for two with a walk, a sacrifice and a run scored.
Orange Coast pitcher Keri Branson was two for three, including a double, a stolen base, an RBI and two runs scored.
In other Orange Empire Conference softball games:
Rancho Santiago 4, Golden West 2--Christina Mazurie was two for three, including her 90th base hit to set a school record. Mazurie broke a 1986-87 record set by Sandy Martinez. Michelle Castorena was three for three and scored both Golden West runs.
Cypress 2, Saddleback 0--Jenny Lopez pitched a two-hit shutout as Cypress won its 13th consecutive game, including 11 shutouts.
In South Coast Conference men’s swimming:
Golden West 70, El Camino 27--Golden West won the conference championship with the victory. Yan Gendlin won the 1,000 freestyle and the 200 backstroke, qualifying for state in the 200 back.
In South Coast Conference women’s swimming:
Golden West 68, El Camino 63--Kate Kilgallen won the 50 backstroke, 100 backstroke and swam on the winning 200 freestyle relay. Teammate Robin Clark won the 200 freestyle and 500 free; Sean Craig won the 100 individual medley, and teamed with Kilgallen, Clark and Kim Peach on the 200 free relay team, which won the meet for Golden West (6-0).
