COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Fullerton Gymnasts 6th in Regionals

The Cal State Fullerton women’s gymnastics team finished sixth in the West Regionals in Corvallis, Ore., Saturday night.

The team’s total score of 191.150 was more than four points behind champion UCLA, which finished with 195.950. Oregon State was second, followed by Stanford, Washington and California. Boise State finished seventh.

In the individual events, UCLA’s Kareema Marrow and Stella Umeh swept all five events. Marrow, who posted a 9.950 in the vault, took the all-around title in 39.600. Umeh, who won the balance beam with a 9.950, finished second with a 39.475.

Fullerton’s Cristi Clifford tied for ninth with a 38.450 all-around and Alexis Lott finished 11th with a total of 38.400 points. Clifford’s score may qualify her for the nationals.

In Big West Conference softball:

Cal State Fullerton 7-5, Pacific 6-9--Shannon Dolan had three hits and three RBIs and Chris Zboril added two hits and a run scored for host Cal State Fullerton (24-10, 6-4) in the first game. Freshman Brandi Isgar pitched four innings of relief to earn the victory.

Carolyn Wilson’s third home run of the day in the fifth inning of the second game helped Pacific (12-24, 2-10) earn the split. Fullerton’s Gabby Guerrero took the loss, allowing six runs in four innings.

In men’s track:

Long Beach State 184, Cal State Fullerton 166, UC Irvine 154, UC Santa Brabara 129--Jaime Barragan won the 100 (10.37) and 200 (20.72) and ran the second leg in Long Beach State’s first-place 400 relay (40.50), helping the 49ers to first place overall. Cal State Fullerton’s Zaylore Stout won the high jump (6-8) and the triple jump (46-11).

In women’s track:

UC Santa Barbara 155, UC Irvine 141, Long Beach State 140, Cal State Fullerton 102--Cal State Fullerton’s Casie Lozano was a triple winner, finishing first in the 100 (12.46), 200 (25.63) and high jump (5-2). UC Santa Barbara won six events.

In nonconference men’s tennis:

Southern California College 7, UC San Diego 0--Mattias Johansson won at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-3, David Robbins won at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-4, and the two teamed to win at No. 1 doubles, 8-3, for visiting Southern California College (13-2).

In nonconference women’s tennis:

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 6, UC Irvine 3--Janet Johnson and Antje Fritschi were three-set winners in singles and Mary Morr and Tiffany Licunian won their doubles match in three sets for UC Irvine (2-14).
