County Auditor Lewis Should Resign

As a resident of Orange County, your April 25 editorial, “Failing the Audit,” makes me doubt my county’s elected officials.
Since Orange County’s Auditor-Controller Steve E. Lewis is an elected official, he should serve the interests of his county’s constituents. Obviously he did not do this, by not making the people aware of (former) Treasurer Robert L. Citron’s overly risky investment practices--even when he knew about them.
The county CEO William J. Popejoy has no confidence in him. Orange County schools are facing severe budget cuts. Mr. Lewis has also lost virtually all his responsibilities.
So, a request from one of Mr. Lewis’ constituents: Please step down so that we can put this fiasco behind us and get on with the post-Orange County bankruptcy era.

I am writing in reference to Auditor Lewis’ job compromise situation. As auditor, Mr. Lewis openly failed to bring the treasurer’s office’s financial problems to light. Lewis needs to leave this office.

How ridiculous that (Supervisor) Jim Silva proposed to keep Auditor Lewis on at his present salary but remove his major duties. What are we paying him for?
