VENTURA : Council Considers Beach Cleanup Grant
- Share via
The Ventura City Council today will consider whether to give a $3,500 grant to the Surfriders Foundation to help pay for cleanup of the county’s beaches and promote environmental awareness, officials said Friday.
The money would be used to plan, promote and carry out activities in Ventura County in conjunction with California Coastal Cleanup Awareness Week, which will start Sept. 23.
Beach walks, educational displays, a daylong countywide beach cleanup and promotional events are planned throughout the week, said Ventura official Steve Chase.
Coastal Commission members designated the Surfrider Foundation as Ventura County’s coordinator of the weeklong event, Chase said. The foundation will also seek $3,500 grants from the cities of Oxnard, Port Hueneme and Camarillo, the county of Ventura and the Navy.
Ventura is the first of these agencies to discuss the proposed grant, Chase said.
