Police on Wednesday sought witnesses to an accident that took the life of a Long Beach man crossing the street during his regular evening walk.
Officers questioned but did not arrest a 39-year-old woman, whose name was withheld, after Tuesday’s 8:10 p.m. accident that fatally injured Wilbur Curtis, 51.
The victim died at Long Beach Community Hospital a short time after the accident at Wardlow Road and Charlemagne Avenue, said Long Beach police spokesman Josef Levy.
The woman, who was westbound on Wardlow in a 1989 Toyota, told police she did not see Curtis “until he was right in front of her,” Levy said, adding that the investigation is continuing.
The victim’s wife told police her husband often went on walks in the evening and was on his normal route when he was hit, Levy said.
