A 13-year-old Simi Valley boy was listed in “extremely critical condition” late Friday night after being struck by a car as he rode his bicycle across the street, police reported.
Simi Valley Police Lt. Neal Rein said several automobiles traveling in both directions on Erringer Road at Elizondo Street stopped to allow Travis Peterson to pedal across the street in a crosswalk at about 5 p.m.
But a car driven in the southbound lane by Penelope Reeps, 64, of Simi Valley failed to stop, Rein said. The car was traveling at about 40 m.p.h. when it hit the teen-ager, Rein said.
The boy was knocked an unknown distance and landed on his head. A hockey helmet he was wearing was knocked from his head before he landed, Rein said.
“We don’t know what, if any, charges will be filed against Reeps,” Rein said.
