Stanley Becomes Stanford Co-Coach
Marianne Stanley, who has been disputing with USC for two years in a federal sex-bias suit, Friday was named interim women’s basketball co-coach at Stanford, replacing Tara VanDerveer for the year she leads the U.S. women’s Olympic team.
Stanley will take over the program with Cardinal assistant Amy Tucker on Oct. 1. Stanley’s contract expires upon VanDerveer’s return.
Stanley coached USC for six seasons, but her contract was not renewed after she asked to be paid a salary comparable to George Raveling’s, the Trojan men’s coach at the time. Stanley sued, but her suit was dismissed in a summary judgment last March. It is being appealed.
