SOFTBALL : Bulldogs Are No. 2 Seed

Garfield earned the highest seed of the seven central Los Angeles teams that qualified for the City Section 3-A Division softball playoffs.
The second-seeded Bulldogs, which went 12-0 in the Eastern League, will play host University (7-3) in the first round.
The 4-A and 3-A playoffs begin Tuesday and continue with the quarterfinals Thursday, the semifinals Saturday and the championships on May 23.
Two other local teams will host first-round games. Roosevelt (8-3), the Central League champion, will meet Lincoln (6-2), which won the Northwest League title. South Gate (10-2), seeded No. 5, will host North Hollywood (4-6).
The remaining four local teams will open the playoffs on the road. Crenshaw (4-6) will meet third-seeded Venice (9-1); Fremont (6-5) will meet fourth-seeded Westchester (9-1); Eagle Rock (7-2) will meet Gardena (6-4) and Los Angeles Center for Enriched Studies (10-2) will play top-seeded Verdugo Hills (9-0).
In the newly formed junior varsity playoff bracket, third-seeded Garfield (9-0), which has a first-round bye, will meet the winner of the Venice-Narbonne match in the quarterfinals Friday. Wilson (9-0), seeded fourth, also has a first-round bye. The Mules will play the winner of the Granada Hills-Huntington Park match.
