Pacific Sunwear Profits Down From Year Earlier

Pacific Sunwear of California Inc., an Anaheim young men’s casual apparel and accessories retailer, recorded net income of $218,000, or 4 cents a share, for the second quarter ended July 30, down from the $895,000, or 17 cents a share, for the second quarter of the prior year. Sales rose 24% to $25.7 million from $20.7 million. The company posted a net loss of $400,000, or 8 cents a share, for the first half, contrasted with a profit of $1.1 million, or 20 cents a share, for the corresponding period of 1994. Sales increased 26% to $45.1 million from $35.9 million. Pacific Sunwear opened 12 new stores in the second quarter this year, and 34 new stores in the first half.
