Harlan County, U.S.A. (KCET Sunday at 1 p.m.) is a thoroughly remarkable Oscar-winning 1978 documentary by Barbara Kopple that cuts to the heart of a chronic national disgrace as it zeros in on the Eastbrook Mining Co. in Brookside, Ky. There, in the summer of 1973, the miners commenced a long and bloody strike.
It’s All True (Cinemax Thursday at 6:30 a.m.) is a fascinating 1993 documentary about the legendary Orson Welles’ project of the same name, a 1942 Latin American-based venture that was never finished. It unjustly helped finish off the director’s reputation.
