CYPRESS : Warehouse Proposal Discussion Delayed

Consideration of a third controversial warehouse in the Valley View Street area has been delayed once again.

The City Council, which had previously approved two other warehouses over the objections of nearby residents, on Monday night voted to postpone discussion of a third such building until Nov. 13. Originally scheduled for a vote Aug. 14, the new warehouse proposal has twice before been rescheduled by the council.

The proposal calls for construction of a 181,924-square-foot building at 11261 Warland Drive. The developer, the Cypress Land Co., informed the council Monday night that some of its consultants were not available. The company therefore asked for a postponement.

Opponents of the warehouse construction said they were pleased about the new delay.

“This delay means that the council will now not be considering this warehouse until after the recall election on Nov. 7,” noted Regan Smith, a warehouse opponent. She added that the council will know the will of the people about warehouses when they take up the matter.

The recall election was triggered by residents who opposed the City Council’s approval last September of a 439,650-square-foot carpet distribution warehouse. That facility, now under construction, is near the intersection of Valley View Street and Orangewood Avenue.

The council later approved a second warehouse in the same area.
