Legislators’ Inaction Failed Constituents

* A final-hour vote in the state Assembly on Sept. 16 demonstrated how the Legislature has evolved from “government by the people, for the people” to “government by the government, regardless of the people.” (“Major Bills Fail as Fractious Legislative Session Sputters to a Close,” Sept. 17.)
In the early morning on that day, a school bond measure failed to become a March ballot issue for the people to decide.
If your child comes home from school concerned about overcrowded classrooms and leaking roofs, you may want to call your Assembly representative to ask why there is no bond issue on the ballot.
Voters, not a handful of legislators, should decide whether new schools should be built and older schools modernized.
