Hornaday Keeps Truckin’ to Title

Ron Hornaday Jr. of Palmdale won his sixth NASCAR SuperTruck Series title Saturday, beating Wally Dallenbach Jr. by 4.3 seconds in the $154,205 Subway 100 at Sears Point Raceway in Sonoma, Calif.
Hornaday, who started his Chevrolet from the pole position, led on all 40 laps on the 2.52-mile course. Dallenbach, also in a Chevrolet, passed Hornaday briefly on the 22nd lap, but was unable to hold the advantage.
Hornaday, who earned $31,700, averaged 67.866 m.p.h.
Miscellany
Hueneme High football Coach Larry Miller has accepted double duty on a temporary basis--he will be the boys’ basketball coach this season until a full-time replacement for Howard Davis can be found.
Hueneme was 9-14 last season under Davis, who resigned to become an assistant at Moorpark College.
Miller will be familiar with at least two of his basketball players, Ronney Jenkins and George Jones, who are football mainstays.
Tennis
Registration is being accepted at Ritchie Valens Park in Pacoima for a junior league sponsored by the Amateur Athletic Foundation and the United States Tennis Assn.
