ORANGE COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL / PREP EXTRA : Sunny Hills Defense Slams Door on Troy With Late Stand

BUENA PARK — In a game that Sunny Hills dominated from the opening kickoff, the outcome was still in doubt with two minutes remaining.
Ahead by seven, with Troy knocking at the door, Sunny Hills defense held on a fourth-and-two on its two-yard line.
An intentional safety by the Lancers made the score 14-9 and Sunny Hills (3-3-1, 2-0) held on for the victory Friday night at Buena Park High to remain undefeated in the Freeway League.
Troy (3-4, 0-2) got the ball on Sunny Hills’ eight after Greg Garand bobbled a bad punt snap from center and the Warriors took over on downs.
“When you play some young kids, you expect things to happen,” Sunny Hills coach Tim Devaney said. “But tonight it was the unexpected.”
Sunny Hills’ defense held Troy to 68 yards total offense.
What was not unexpected was Sunny Hills’ strong running attack of Robert Oliver and Chris Velotta. The seniors combined for 145 yards.
Oliver put Sunny Hills ahead, 7-0, on the second play from scrimmage, busting off left tackle for a 67-yard touchdown run.
Troy tied the game at 7-7 in the second quarter, on a one-yard run by Kyion Grayes.
