COVINA — Paul Toepel’s three-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter put Pacifica in position to win, but a bad snap on the conversion left the Mariners tied, 14-14, with Covina Northview in a nonleague game Friday at Covina High.
Pacifica (6-1-2) fell behind, 14-0, in the second quarter after Northview capitalized on two Mariner turnovers.
Delano Rhyne, who rushed for 138 yards in 27 carries, took advantage of a fumbled snap from center by Pacifica and scored on a five-yard run.
After the Mariners fumbled away the kickoff, Northview scored again when Casey Wasilchin caught a 24-yard touchdown pass from David Fraijo.
Pacifica answered in the third quarter on a 35-yard touchdown pass from J.D. Stern to Geof Gilpin and the Mariners converted the two-point try.
