Inmate Stabs Doctor in Thigh While Getting AIDS Test

An inmate at the Men’s Central Jail in Downtown Los Angeles who was getting a blood test for AIDS pulled a needle from his arm Tuesday and stabbed a doctor in the thigh, a sheriff’s spokeswoman said.
About 8:45 a.m., Michael Visnyak, 41, “removed the hypodermic needle from his arm, ran across the room and stabbed [the physician] in the right thigh,” Deputy Britta Tubbs said.
The 63-year-old doctor, whose name was withheld, was treated for the puncture wound and then returned to work, Tubbs said.
Visnyak, arrested last month for petty theft, is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on Thursday. He is expected to face an additional charge in connection with the jail attack, Tubbs said. Results of Visnyak’s AIDS test are pending.
