Elaine Canchola
SCHOOL: Nordhoff
SPORT: Cross-country
YEAR: Sophomore
SEASON AT A GLANCE: Canchola has won seven of nine races this season, her only losses coming to Kristen Gordon of Concord Carondelet in the Stanford Invitational and to Kim Mortensen of Thousand Oaks in the Ventura County championships. Last year, Canchola came out of nowhere to win the Southern Section Division III title and place second in both the State Division III and Foot Locker West Regional championships.
WEEK AT A GLANCE: Canchola covered the three-mile course at Lake Casitas in 17 minutes 57 seconds on Thursday to win her second consecutive Frontier League title and move to third on the all-time course list behind Mortensen (17:34 this year) and Amy Skieresz of Agoura (17:48 in 1994). “She’s doing everything faster this year than she did last year so we’re happy with that,” Nordhoff Coach Ken Reeves said. “She’s a neophyte runner and I’m happy that she’s continued to progress.”
