Justin Hamilton, who would have competed for a starting setter’s position at Cal State Northridge, has quit the Matadors’ volleyball team, Coach John Price said.
Price said Hamilton left the team because he was no longer excited about playing volleyball.
Hamilton, a 6-foot-6 sophomore from Clovis West High in Fresno, was the backup setter last season. In 14 matches, he had 165 assists.
Signings
Ross Fulgentis and Jason Semelsberger have signed letters of intent to play golf for UCLA.
Fulgentis, from Westlake High, was named Southern California golfer of the year for the 18-under division. He won the Eddie Hogan tournament in Oregon last summer.
Semelsberger, of Hart High, won the Southern California State Junior Amateur in August.
They were also recruited by Cal, Minnesota, UNLV and USC.
Jamilah Jones, a 5-foot-6 guard from Bishop Montgomery High, signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Cal State Northridge.
Jones is the first recruit signed by Northridge’s new women’s coach, Michael Abraham.
The Matadors lost the recruiting race for ChaRon Walker, a 6-foot-1 forward from Saddleback College. Walker signed with Arizona, turning down offers from Northridge and East Carolina.
Brian Laibow, a four-year basketball starter for Agoura High, will sign a grant-in-aid agreement this week to attend Dartmouth, Agoura Coach Kevin Pasky said.
Laibow, a guard, averaged 15 points and five assists last season. He will join former Agoura football players Damon Blechen and Jon Gibbs at Dartmouth, an Ivy League school that does not offer athletic scholarships.
