HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL : Hueneme Back Gets 619 Yards, 7 Touchdowns

Hueneme High senior running back Ronney Jenkins set a national rushing record with 619 yards and scored seven touchdowns in Hueneme’s 52-34 victory over Rio Mesa at Oxnard, breaking the national record of 608 yards set by John Bunch of Arizona in 1974.
Jenkins scored on runs of 93, 84, 26, 79, 43 87 and 15 yards as Hueneme (5-5) defeated Rio Mesa for the first time since 1987.
Jenkins also kicked a 31-yard field goal and an extra-point. He had 30 carries.
“I just want to thank my line; they blocked great for me and they have all year,” Jenkins said.
The game was Jenkins’ last one of his high school career. He ran for 2,152 yards this season.
Rio Mesa’s Bruce Samuel gained 232 yards and scored two touchdowns in 28 carries.
