WHAT’S L.A.’S BEST MODERN STRUCTURE THAT DESERVES TO BE PRESERVED?
Wayne Ratkovich, president of the Ratkovich Co., which has restored such city landmarks as the Wiltern Theatre/Pellisier Building , the Oviatt and the Fine Arts .
The building I would most like to see preserved for the next 50 years is the Los Angeles Mall under City Hall East, adjacent to City Hall. My reasons are:
--It will take that long for most Angelenos to find it.
--It may take that long for someone already there to get out of the garage.
--It will serve as a reminder that cities shouldn’t develop real estate.
--It demonstrates the danger of ever electing a developer to public office.
